Edward Stevens, president of Stevens Baron Communications Inc., got frustrated watching companies in Northeast Ohio send their major advertising and public relations accounts out of town.
Dick Clough, who owns a small advertising, marketing and publishing firm in Lakewood, got weary of going to local networking luncheons and meeting the same people.
And Jerry Hoegner, director of marketing services for The Plain Dealer, got tired of wondering when all the great marketing and communications agencies in town were going to stop complaining and start collaborating.
Out of their frustrations and aspirations came the Northeast Ohio Communication Affiliates, NOCA for short, the first-ever consortium for all the advertising, marketing, promotional, publishing and broadcasting associations in Greater Cleveland and Akron. Twenty-four groups have already signed in.
